Alpina Fanfare is a work in three movements which follow one another without interruption. Composed for the Swiss Loss Band and dedicated to Kurt Brogli. Alpina Fanfare begins with a solemn introduction, written in the form of a fanfare, and exhibited first by percussion, then by horns and trombones. From this majestic fanfare derives a rhythmic motif that we find throughout the development. The main theme is exhibited brilliantly by all members of the concert band. The melody of the second movement takes up thematic elements of the opening fanfare. The central passage is predominantly woodwinds supported by the horns. The finale of the work opens with a brilliant interpretation of trombones and percussions which somewhat recalls the style of the introduction. The lyrical theme of the second movement is re-exposed and the fanfare motif brings this suite to an apotheosis conclusion.
