This edition includes some of the best-loved Christmas melodies from various countries arranged for flute and piano. The focus of this selection is on English Christmas carols such as the traditional The First Noel and The Holly And The Ivy as well as What Child Is This (sung to the melody of Greensleeves). Also in the English Christmas carol repertoire are Adeste fideles (O Come All Ye Faithful), as well as Georg Friedrich Handel’s Joy To The World and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing—sung to the tune by the German Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. France is represented with the folksong Les anges dans nos campagnes (Angels We Have Heard On High) and Adophe Adam’s Cantique de Noël (Oh Holy Night). Also included are the ‘must-haves’ Silent Night from Austria and Jingle Bells from the USA.
Franco Cesarini has arranged all these songs as little Christmas concert pieces for flute and piano: the melody generally runs twice through in different versions, each passage preceded by a prelude or interlude on the piano. On the enclosed CD he plays every piece once with piano accompaniment, followed by a play-along version that only contains the accompaniment.
